First Year (30 hours)

Focus on core requirements, first Area F courses

Spring semester: Perhaps ENGL 2208-Intro to Creative Writing

 

Second Year (30 hours)

Complete core requirements, Area F courses

ENGL 2208 and/or ENGL 3008: Intermediate Creative Writing

Perhaps First upper-level major courses

 

Third Year (30 hours)

Focus on major requirements

Complete any final core/Area F requirements

Fall semester: ENGL 4011: Scriptwriting Workshop*

Spring semester: ENGL 4022: Fiction Workshop*

Students who major in English/Creative Writing take 2208 (Intro to Creative Writing) and ENGL 3008 (Intermediate Creative Writing) before taking 4000-level workshops.  Most will take ENGL 4031 (Creative Writing Seminar) in the spring of their fourth year. 

 

Major requirements (24 hours) are divided equally between Creative Writing (12) and Literature (12), although students have ample elective hours to take other courses in writing, literature, or other fields.

 

*Our students are asked to take two 4000-level workshops in poetry, fiction, scriptwriting, creative nonfiction, or poetry translation.  Students may of course take other courses than those listed and may also take additional workshops for elective hours.
