Historic Milledgeville

 

 

Laura Newbern, an Assistant Professor of English/Creative Writing at Georgia College & State University, teaches graduate and undergraduate poetry workshops, Introduction to Creative Writing, and World Literature.  Laura is also the Poetry Editor of Arts & Letters.

 

 

 

 

 

Laura arrived at GCSU in 2005, after teaching at the University of Georgia.  She earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.  Laura returned to Warren Wilson when she was awarded their first Joan Beebe Graduate Teaching Fellowship.  Laura also holds an M.A. in English/Creative Writing from New York University, and she earned her B.A. at Barnard College at Columbia University.  Her areas of interest include creative writing, poetics, 20th century American poetry, 20th century French poetry, Chinese poetry, and Surrealism.

Laura’s poetry has appeared in The Oxford American, TriQuarterly,  The Atlantic Monthly, and Poetry, and has been anthologized in Urban Nature (Milkweed Editions).

 

 

 

 

 

Laura’s other primary interest is black and white photography
