Note to Students: For the time being, the
minor in Creative Writing has been suspended. Note to Majors in the Program: Please
make sure that you have declared your major (see David Muschell). If you are unsure—see the advisors list on
the bulletin board. Students who
wish to major in English with a concentration in creative writing study
literature as both readers and makers of poetry, fiction, drama, literary
nonfiction, and poetry translation.
Outside the classroom, students edit The Peacock’s Feet, participate in public readings, and attend
special workshops with visiting writers. English/creative
writing majors take two multiple genre courses (Intro to Creative Writing,
Intermediate Creative Writing) before taking two advanced workshops in single
genres (poetry, fiction, scriptwriting, creative nonfiction, or poetry
translation). Students conclude with
the Creative Writing Seminar, in conjunction with their senior capstone
project. In addition to creative writing
courses, students take Shakespeare, introductory courses in American and British
literature, Writing about Literature, and a modern foreign language, as well
as four advanced courses in literature, criticism, and linguistics. For
complete degree requirements and other information, see GCSU’s Undergraduate Catalog. |
