Why
Poetry & Memoir?
Many contemporary poets have lately been drawn to creative
nonfiction and memoir. Why? Perhaps these two genres both seek to tell the
truth, to express the world we live in rather than imaginary worlds? Whatever your reason may be, this intensive three-day workshop will provide you an
opportunity to explore this new and exciting genre. The
Workshop: May 12-15
This “master class” workshop will be limited in size (5-6
writers), due to restricted space at the Application
Procedures Poets should submit with their non-refundable application fee ($35, which includes a subscription to Arts & Letters, a $15 value), a sample of their poetry (up to 8 PAGES, either in manuscript or photocopies of published poems), a short (500-word) statement of why they are interested in working in creative nonfiction, and a cover letter with brief bio. Checks or money orders should be payable to “GC&SU” (note “Editor’s Workshop” in the memo section of your check). Please print the application form and submit with your application fee and other materials. Please note if you prefer the smaller Twin Room (bathroom is down the hall but private) for a reduction in the workshop fee or if you prefer a full-size room at the regular workshop fee rate. NOTE: Room preferences will be considered on a “first applied, first accepted” basis. We cannot guarantee room choices. Send application fee and all materials to: Arts & Letters Editor’s Workshop Campus Individuals accepted for the workshops will each receive a $100 Editor’s Fellowship, reducing fees from $650 to $550 (for the “Twin Room,” a reduction from $550 to $450). Two people willing to share the Twin Room may submit their materials together but each must include the $35 non-refundable fee. If both partners are accepted to the workshop, they may share the “Twin Room” at a reduced cost of $375 per person ($475 regular fee less $100 Editor’s Fellowship).
